 BMW i4 electric car specifications.

The all-electric BMW i4 sedan is a key part of BMW's growing range of electric vehicles.
It offers a 4-series grand coupé model with a battery-powered drive system and high-precision road holding.
There are three different flavors of the i4: the first two are single-engine rear-wheel drive, with the eDrive35 producing 281 horsepower and 260 miles EPA range, while the eDrive40 producing 335 horsepower and an estimated range of 300 miles driving.
That number drops to, 245 miles on the hot 536hp i4 M50 with all-wheel drive.
The latter drives like a better-handled M3, which is a huge compliment. The M50 reaches 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds, 0.2 seconds compared to the M3 competition, and can accelerate from 50 to 70 mph in just 2.0 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than the Dimmer. /PGT; When accelerometers aren't used, the i4 is an impressive everyday driver. While it lacks the steering response we prefer in other M vehicles, it's a refined and exciting sedan with nimble handling and extremely satisfying sports sedan handling.

New for 2023?

Since the BMW i4 appeared last year, the 2023 i4 received only minor option changes.
The new entry-level eDrive35 joins the lineup, utilizing a smaller 66.0kWh battery pack to give it a range of 260 miles.
Special BMW M 50 years emblems are available for the i4 M50.

The 18-inch M Bicolor Midnight Gray wheels are no longer available with all-season tires.
The Iconic Sounds Electric option, which allows a variety of compound sounds to be played through the vehicle's speakers and coordinated with your acceleration, is sold separately from the Premium Pack.

  • The M50 is a high-rise performance in the more affordable version - and less powerful - eDrive35 and eDrive40 wheels.
  • The M-badged model comes standard with a firmer look that includes 19-inch wheels. It also has a beautifully tuned suspension that enjoys aggressive driving but is quiet and comfortable around town.
  • Upgraded brakes with blue calipers are also available on the M model.
  • We love the look of the 's optional 20-inch wheels and the improved performance of its wider, beefier tires, but they reduce the M50's estimated range of 270 at 227 miles.
  • We upgrade the interior with one of the Vernasca leather options, the Premium package (interior lighting, heated seats and steering wheel, lumbar support), and individual options such as adaptive LED headlights, ventilated front seats, Harman Kardon audio system.

EV motor, power, and performance.

The 2023 i4 feeds electrons into one or two electric motors, depending on the model.
The eDrive35 is one of two single-engine, rear-wheel-drive options with a 281-horsepower unit. The eDrive40 has a single motor on the rear axle with 335 hp.

The M50 has an electric motor on both axles, providing all-wheel drive and producing 536 hp and 586 lb-ft.
The M50 we tested hits 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds

which is faster than the rear-engined M3.

The rear-wheel drive i4 rolls on a standard set of 18-inch wheels; 19 inches are optional. The all-wheel-drive M50, on the other hand, comes with a 19- or 20-second system and features adaptive dampers and variable-ratio steering.

The i4 M50 we drive offers powerful and immediate propulsion, and although it weighs much more than the M3, its lower center of gravity helps it move with confidence and agility.

Range, charging, and battery life.

BMW says the single-engine i4 eDrive40 has the cap potential to tour as much as about three hundred miles on a complete battery.
The M50's twin-engine, all-wheel force has an equal 81. five kWh battery, however, its claimed variety is 245 miles.
These i4 fashions have a charging potential of two hundred kilowatts that may upload between 88 and 108 miles in only 10 minutes.
The entry-stage eDrive35 version comes with a smaller net-potential battery of 66. zero kWh that is stated to offer approximately 260 miles of variety and attain a charging velocity of a hundred and eighty kWh.

Using a Level 2 charger (as much as eleven kW) on board, the i4 can recharge its battery from 0 to hundred percent much less than eight hours.

Real-world fuel economy and MPGe.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the most efficient i4 model is the eDrive40 with 18-inch wheels.
This model earned ratings of 109 Autobahn mpg and 108 Autobahn mpg.
The addition of the larger 19-inch wheels brings those numbers down slightly, and the more powerful M50 is rated lower as well.
While we don't drive every i4 on our 75-mile freeway, which is part of our extensive testing program to determine its real-world efficiency, the i4 eDrive40 Gran Coupe we tested achieved a range of 280 miles.
Only two miles from the EPA estimate.
Visit the EPA website for more information on i4 efficiency ratings.

Interior, comfort, and transport.

The interior of the i4 is elegantly appointed and includes optional rose gold inlays, white leather upholstery, and light wood trim.
The overall design is similar to other BMW models, but the i4, along with the all-electric iX SUV, is the first to feature a huge, sleek screen that takes up almost two-thirds of the dashboard. The 4-door i4 features a dramatic rear roofline that mimics the looks of a coupe but has a traditional rear trunk.

Information, entertainment, and communication.

The i4 is one of the first BMW vehicles to feature the company's latest infotainment and connectivity features.
Called iDrive 8, it features a 14.9-inch touchscreen display paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel on a huge curved dash display.
In combination with the rotating console in the center console, the system offers advanced voice commands and countless popular functions.  These include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
